The Industrial Shrinkage Monitor (ISM) was developed for the measurement of the degree of shrinkage during the washing process. There are two variants:

• ISM W1 consists of 3 woollen cloths.
• ISM C1 consists of 6 cotton swabs and measures the shrinkage of cotton textiles.

Both cloths are washed together 5 to 10 times, after which the distance between the lines on the cloth the can be measured and a shrinkage percentage determined.
